Yersinia enterocolitica est bacillegram-négatif de forme courte, appartenant à famille des Enterobactiacae.

Ces réactifs sont des sérums immuns utilisés pour identifier les groupes 03, 05, 08, 09 de la classification de Wauters et col. de Y. enterocolitica. Ces groupes sont considérés comme pathogènes chez l'homme. Les antisérums contiennent des agglutinines spécifiques du groupe indiqué sur l'étiquette.

Le groupage est déterminé par agglutination sur lame.

Chaque sérum immun est préparé par hyperimmunisation de lapins avec des souches standards de Wauters et de l'Institut National d'Hygiène du Japon et par inactivation des sérums à 56°C pendant 30minutes. Les agglutinines pouvant occasionner des réactions croisées sont absorbées, les sérums sont stérilisés par filtration et contiennent 0,1% p/v d'azide de sodium.
